2008 Classmates - CHEUNG, Kim Fung Eddie

“UMT provides me opportunity to prepare myself for the dynamic changes in the law enforcement work in Hong Kong.” Eddie says.

I’m Police Sergeant and have been serving in the Hong Kong Police Force for 19 years. As an existing member of the Force, I find both experience and life-long learning equally important. I always give myself opportunities to attend courses in order to keep myself updated. Therefore, I have completed a Diploma Course in Legal Studies from the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuation Education in some years ago and I found that useful in my work.

I realized that good management skills are very important in my work, so I have decided to study the Bachelor of Business Administration course from the University of Management and Technology since 2006.

I enjoy life-long learning as it provides me opportunity to prepare myself for the dynamic changes in the law enforcement work in Hong Kong. It is also necessary for me that can meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment and the ever increasing demands of the public we serve. The UMT studying is a good chance for me to exchange my experiences and knowledge with colleagues from different areas.

2007 Classmates - HOTTES, Andrew Michael

“Flexibility in a constantly changing Economic World is crucial for Success..” Andrew says.

As Chief Information Officer for a Global MNC, managing Information Technology for over 6,500 users in today’s economic environment, requires more than just an in-depth knowledge of Technology - it requires the ability to understand and interpret key business drivers and deliver value added IT solutions to positively support the business in its quest for profitability and growth.

In a constantly demanding and changing working environment, flexibility in delivering appropriate business solutions is mandatory.

The ability to think laterally, and out of the box to deliver strategic and tactical solutions requires more than just the knowledge and skills in the Information Technology discipline. Gaining further in depth understanding within sales and marketing, finance and business development activities, further develops ones ability to deliver timely IT solutions to the business.

Business knowledge, combined with the ability to be flexible in a constantly changing economic world, is therefore crucial for success. As my role requires a large degree of international traveling, the key requirement for me in selecting a program to enhance my business understanding and knowledge was flexibility and adaptability.

Through the UMT BBA program, I was able to maximize the time I had available whilst traveling to complete reading and assignments to prepare me for the exams. The flexibility of the program ensured that I could attend tutorials as needed and online information and access to materials was always at hand; as well as UMT staff to assist if ever required.

The UMT program has further equipped me with necessary knowledge that I may now apply in delivering further solutions and hence productivity, to my business.

2007 Classmates - KWONG, Wing Tat Terry

“To compete with the rapidly changing environments and enrich my future with continuous learning.” Terry says.

Since my graduation of Diploma and Higher Certificate education in engineering long time ago, I participated in construction engineering industry major in project management. Currently, I am a Senior Operations Manager of a leading aluminium engineering contracting firm in Hong Kong and handle various business and management issues in daily routine. Due to the job nature with variable working schedule, it was much difficult for me to select a study for enhancement through the traditional part-time learning programme until I learnt a flexible distance learning programme from UMT that fit my studying time model and provide a harmonic time-balancing among my work, study and family.

In my study, I learnt plenty of practical business management theories and concepts in which my managerial skills gained from my experience can be consolidated. With the implementation of the management tools and techniques learnt in my study, it enables me to compete with the rapidly changing environment and enrich my future.

Being a marketing manager in one of the manufacturing company, I was fond working of long work hours more than ten years in my company. In the past, I looked for the success in every job function until I felt that lack of education was a liability in my job.

As a BBA student at UMT, I have learned more skills in management, finance and marketing. The program encourage me to think strategically, communicate effectively and work productively. Many of the taught knowledge are very useful. Continousing learning in UMT is worth to do for a better future.

There have been times in my life that I didn’t have the confidence to believe that I could succeed in anything I set my mind to. Through much effort I have now come to a place where I know that no goal is too lofty and this is why I am now applying to University of Management and Technology. “Learning is always related to doing and wanting to do something. “UMT's flexible teaching style enables me to complete my BBA program on my own time.” Candy says.

Working in a leader U.S. company as a supervisor for more than eight years, I decided to increase competitive ability by strengthen my educational background. As long as my job requires long working hour and heavy work load, therefore, I have chosen UMT because its flexible teaching style which enables me to complete my BBA program on my own time. Whatever classroom lecture performed by experienced instructor or online learning platform, UMT provides me an interactive learning and up-dated knowledge apply to real world. Gaining from studies, I have learnt the management skill which beneficial to my job in motivating people. Besides, it also contributes to improve my time management by recognizing priorities on daily activities.
